End of the Year Meme: 2020 Edition

1. What did you do in 2020 that you'd never done before?
Landed a paid editing job, petted wolves, reported for jury duty, slept in a bus, and made, purchased, received, washed, lost, broke, and wore more masks than I can count.

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I'm trying to get all these memes and lists and stuff squared away but it's got to be one at a time. Snowflake Challenge is going to be very tardy.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?

4. Did anyone close to you die?
Not personally close, no. We've been lucky in more ways than one.

5. What countries did you visit?
Haha yeah right. I mean we did go to a city called Madrid but it was pronounced MAH-drid and it was in New Mexico. (That's where I slept in the bus.)

6. What would you like to have in 2021 that you lacked in 2020?
Herd immunity, thriving local businesses, access to travel...

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
I think it was mostly all in art projects, which is a little sad since you'd think in that case I'd have some killer final products to share now, but eh. 2020 amirite.

9. What was your biggest failure?
I wish I had done better with Kerensa's training, and I wish I had written more. There are some local friends, especially aging ones, who I meant to reach out to more than I did.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
No, but every time I got so much as a headache it came with a type of paranoia I've never experienced before.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
If we get to go on our Japan trip next month, it will have been those tickets. If not, zoo membership, I guess. And a Disney+ subscription. Maybe the Wacom tablet, if I ever get into the habit of using it. Oh, and some art markers at a major discount I'll talk about when I do an art post. Also, Simon and I decided that our Christmas present to each other would be to upgrade our TV, and I really like the one we got.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Everyone who got hit hard by all the awful things happening this year and powered through it.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Everyone who looked for who to blame before looking for how to help.

14. Where did most of your money go?
Mostly the usual, necessities and the odd indulgence or gift.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Visits from friends and family.

16. What song will always remind you of 2020?
"Spooky Scary Skeletons"

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
Happier or sadder? Sadder, by a bit.
Fatter or thinner? Fatter.
Richer or poorer? Richer.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Write, blog, and hike.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Video games.

20. How will you be spending Christmas?
Got to have the whole family again, sans my nephew Sean who was with his bio-mom. We had our traditional fried fish dinner on Christmas Eve and a leg of lamb on Christmas Day, with more cookies and sweets than you can shake a stick at. It was a good time.

23. What was your favorite TV program(s)?
The Mandalorian, and whatever else I talked about in the media meme.

25. What was the best book you read?
Probably The Gulag Archipelago Vol. 1 (color me surprised) or The Odyssey.

26. What was your greatest musical discovery?
"Persephone" by Kula Shaker.

27. What did you want and get?
A vaccine (I mean that it was created, not that I've gotten it yet), a Chromebook, a Wacom tablet.

28. What did you want and not get?
Simon's parents coming for a visit, my Trading Post job back, certain home and garden projects.

29. What was your favorite film of this year?
Knives Out, Borat: Subsequent Moviefilm, Soul, and several others listed in the fandom meme.

30. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
My mom made me a cake and a few of us sat on the porch to eat it.

31. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
...I'm not going to dignify this with a response.

32. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2019?
For a lot of it I basically reverted to my youth, meaning minimal effort. Makeup and jewelry just didn't seem worth it.

33. What kept you sane?
My family, my pets, nature, and art.

34. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
I think I'm developing a slight crush on Gina Carano.

35. What political issue stirred you the most?
Ai...not going here.

36. Who did you miss?
My online friends from days of yore, mostly.

37. Who was the best new person you met?
Circumstances haven't been great for meeting new people even if one was already good at it, which I am not. I love the current gang in the Joyous Rebellion server, though, and some of them are new to me.

38. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2020:
Take care of yourself first or you won't be able to help anyone else.

39. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
"Was it fair? A coyote den. Thirteen born, one survives. Sun and air, light and oxygen. Morning breaks as he arrives."
