Icon Meme

Thank you landrews for picking five icons for me! Come play, it's fun.

1. Reply to this post with "not today," and I will pick five of your icons.
2. Make a post (including the meme info) and talk about the icons I chose.
3. Other people can then comment to you and make their own posts.
4. This will create a never-ending cycle of icon glee.

I grabbed this from iconomicon, a wealth of interesting icons. Since I've had it I've found no end of potential meanings in it: immensity, mystery, nature, tranquility, adventure, freedom, and of course just plain water are all concepts that seem to be implied in one simple image of the ocean. On a personal level, I have no talent for swimming or boating, but the physical and metaphorical properties of water have always been deeply important to me. Also I have a thing for aquatic mammals.

This is a scene from the first episode of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic, which is kindasorta my favorite show in the whole wide world. It's pretty much what it looks like - hyper pink pony being ignored by calm purple pony. In real life I'm seldom if ever the talkative one in this kind of scenario, but online I find myself getting really really excited about this or that, and I see this as the perfect animated sequence for portraying that state of mind. (And the first I ever heard of the show was a gif just like this one!)

This was made by the talented and generous janasbangel. Mostly I just thought it was a masterful and convincing manip, and I can never have enough B/A icons, but I also like seeing the couple as they never were in the show. Even in the wedding dream sequence, Buffy's youth was evident enough to keep the formal wear from reaching this level of sophistication, and anyway we already knew they were doomed. Here she's got grace and maturity, and they both look assured in their relationship - it's like an AU in which they're an undercover crime-fighting rich human couple. Bring it.

Another one from iconomicon, but it's a heck of a lot harder to find applicable posts to use this one on. Death? Anatomy? Maybe for all those times I talk about animating the run cycles of canine characters? Anyway, I do have an interest in skeletal structures, and this icon is just too damn cool to not keep on hand.

Fans of Game of Thrones will recognize the silhouette of Arya Stark, everyone's favorite wolf girl, and the quotes from her mentor that she keeps reciting for a long time in the book series. None of them particularly speak to me; this icon, I think, is all about the character. She needs a mantra, something to constantly reaffirm her self-reliance, and eventually it begins to shape her: I like the way the words seem to fill her up, replacing everything that should be inside her. And that much is probably more than I've written about GoT here for months, so obviously I haven't had much opportunity to use this icon.
