The first piece of entertainment technology I ever bought was a portable cassette deck, a little device from Aiwa that cost me eight dollars plus batteries. I didn't have anything to listen to on it, so I found some horrible tape in the house that nobody else wanted, until finally my cousin made me a copy of the soundtrack to The Lion King.
Today I'm lying in bed figuring out the keyboard on my new Nexus 7. I opened it last night, downloaded some apps, and started watching an old favorite movie, The Gods Must Be Crazy, on Crackle.
I know this is a topic that nobody ever shuts up about, but sometimes it still astonishes me. I'm kind of thrilled about the era I live in.
